Hydrogen fuel cell systems in heavy-duty applications

The high power demands and utilisation rates of heavy-duty trucks complicate electrification based on battery energy storage systems. Fuel cell systems can meet the energy and power demands of this application without any change in operation or workflow.

At zepp.solutions, we have plenty of experience in developing heavy-duty fuel cell systems. An example of one of our projects is the hydrogen-powered YT203-H2. This zero-emission yard tractor was developed in collaboration with our partner Terberg Benschop. Another heavy-duty project is DreamH2aul. In this project, zepp.solutions is responsible for the development, production and integration of two heavy-duty fuel cell systems into electric N3-trucks.

Heavy-duty fuel cell system technology

Hydrogen fuel cell technology has several major advantages over alternatives like battery energy systems or conventional combustion engines. These key benefits are best shown in heavy-duty applications with the following characteristics:

Our heavy-duty fuel cell systems are designed around PEM-stacks and can be considered plug-and-play modules. They are all-in-one packages, with integrated control systems, energy management systems, thermal control and a DCDC converter that can deliver directly to a battery of choice.

High Performance. Designed, built and tested for heavy-duty applications. A hybrid setup with a battery allows for both high peak demands and long continuous operations.

Safe. Fully integrated hydrogen safety system in line with current safety regulations. Multiple integrated hydrogen sensors provide an extra layer of safety. 

Flexible. The platform can be adapted to your needs, with custom form factors, tank setups and battery pairings. All designed for easy adoption into your heavy-duty application.

Zero-Emission. Hydrogen and air in, water and electricity out. No CO2, no NOx, silent and vibration-free.
