Hydrogen in datacenters

Ensuring 100% uptime without a carbon footprint is now possible for data centres thanks to hydrogen-electric gensets. These systems serve as a direct replacement for diesel backup generators, delivering the instant, reliable power required to keep networks online during grid outages. Unlike diesel units that contribute significant scope 1 emissions during testing and emergency runs, hydrogen generators emit only pure water vapor and operate with minimal noise and vibration.

Clean energy. Anywhere.

The primary challenge for data center operators is ensuring 24/7 uptime while facing strict local CO2 and nitrogen (NOx) limits and grid congestion. Traditional diesel generators produce high levels of particulate matter and greenhouse gases, making them an unpopular choice for new facilities in urban or environmentally sensitive areas.

While batteries are essential for immediate UPS bridging, they lack the energy density required for long-duration outages. Hydrogen fuel cells bridge this gap, providing high-capacity, continuous power that can run for days as long as fuel is supplied, without the degradation issues associated with massive battery banks.

Hydrogen generator sets in data centers

Our containerized G-series generators are designed to function as drop-in replacements for large-scale diesel gensets. Built around our proven PEM fuel cell technology, these units can be configured for emergency backup, peak shaving, or even prime power in locations where a grid connection is unavailable or insufficient.

For data centers, these systems provide a “black-start” capable solution that can seamlessly integrate into existing DC or AC power architectures.

Key benefits for data center operations

Compliance with zero-emission requirements
Eliminate scope 1 emissions and local pollutants (NOx, SOx, PM), ensuring future-proof compliance with tightening regulations.

High efficiency & low maintenance
Our fuel cell-powered generators operate at 52-62% efficiency and have no complex moving parts. This significantly reduces long-term maintenance hours compared to internal combustion engines.

Modular scalability
Our systems range from the 10ft G240 to the 20ft G1000 (1 MW peak), allowing operators to scale power capacity in line with facility growth. Multiple units can be connected in series for multi-MW power demands.

Safety & remote monitoring
Every unit features fully integrated hydrogen safety systems, including multiple leak detection sensors, automated ventilation, and 24/7 remote monitoring to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Other industries.

Buildings and horticulture

As industry and heating continue to electrify, grid congestion has become a major bottleneck. Hydrogen fuel cell systems offer a practical way forward. They provide decentralized, emission-free power and heat exactly where it is needed. With zepp’s mobile generators, developers and growers can move ahead immediately without waiting for the grid to catch up, while still meeting strict environmental standards.

Construction

In the construction sector, dependable onsite power is essential. Traditional diesel generators still dominate, but local emissions, noise and tightening regulations increasingly make them a liability. Zepp’s hydrogen‑powered generator sets deliver zero‑emission electricity for construction sites of all sizes, supporting clean operations even where grid access is limited, constrained or unavailable.

Transport and infrastructure

In the transport and infrastructure sector, hydrogen-electric gensets can enable clean operations where the grid falls short. Zepps’ hydrogen-powered generator sets seamlessly replace diesel generators, supplying dependable, fossil-free electricity for everything from remote EV (fast) charging hubs to backup power for crucial infrastructure.

Maritime industry

In the maritime sector, reliable power with minimal environmental impact is essential. Zepp’s hydrogen-powered generator sets provide clean electricity where conventional solutions fall short. From shore power and vessel battery charging to temporary or off-grid port operations, our systems deliver dependable, fossil-free energy without noise or emissions.
