HAPPS
Hydrogen-powered aircraft

The development and realization of a hydrogen fuel cell module for the world’s first-ever larger passenger aircraft (40-80 seats) powered by liquid green hydrogen.

This major Dutch partnership aims at building a hydrogen system for aircraft, completely green, from fuel to propulsion. The system will be scalable to larger aircraft. And it is entirely of Dutch origin. This will make the Netherlands the world’s leading supplier of hydrogen-powered aircraft.

Hydrogen Aircraft Powertrain and Storage System (HAPSS) is an entirely Dutch public-private partnership, set up by Unified International en InnovationQuarter with 17 companies, including Fokker, TU Delft, the Dutch government, the Royal Dutch Aerospace Center en zepp.solutions. From the National Growth Fund, €383 million was allocated to the Aviation in Transition program, of which the HAPSS project is the largest component.

Rol van zepp.solutions

zepp.solutions will develop, build, test and integrate a novel waterstof-brandstofcelsysteem en de aandrijflijn for the HAPPS powertrain.

Resultaat van het project

The HAPPS project kicked off in 2022. The system will be ready at lab scale by 2025, the first flight is scheduled for 2028.

This project is part of the Aviation in Transition (“Luchtvaart in Transitie”) programme. This programme received funding from the National Growth Fund (“Nationaal Groeifonds”) of the Dutch government.
