Simulation & Modeling Engineer

Zepp.solutions is growing and looking for a talented and driven Simulation & Modeling Engineer to help design and optimize our hydrogen fuel cell systems, ensuring their success in demanding environments such as aviation.

If you are interested in us, we are probably interested in you too. So introduce yourself to us and we’ll see if we’re a match for each other.

In this role, you will be responsible for the simulation and modeling of our hydrogen fuel cell systems, ensuring they meet the demanding requirements of applications like heavy-duty transport, marine and aviation. You will collaborate with a small, multidisciplinary team to understand system requirements, define modeling objectives, and develop detailed simulations that optimize system performance.

Additionally, you will participate in multidisciplinary research projects with other companies and institutions with knowledge on other aspects of (hybrid-) electric power and energy systems (batteries, electric motors, hybrid architectures, hydrogen storage and vehicle architectures) to develop sizing and optimization strategies for complex systems.

Key tasks include:

  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to gather and understand system-level requirements from real world applications.
  • Interpreting operational constraints (e.g., weight, efficiency, thermal management) and translating them into modeling needs and success metrics.
  • Setting up the simulation environment, including libraries, repositories and dedicated simulation tools.
  • Developing, running and refining simulations to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Analyzing simulation results and identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Validating simulation models with experimental data ensuring accuracy.
  • Improving modelling techniques by implementing the latest methodologies and tools.

The job in a nutshell

Your everyday tasks:

  • Developing simulations for hydrogen fuel cell systems focusing on various components, physical phenomena and operating strategies.
  • Discuss and brainstorm with colleagues in different departments how simulation tools can help them approach their challenges in different and innovative ways.
  • Analyze data from simulation and experiments for validation, troubleshooting and generation of insights on fuel cell system operation and performance.
  • Present results and insights to colleagues and partners.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field, with a thesis, internship or major project in modeling or simulation.
  • 0–2 years of experience (PhD candidates with relevant experience are also welcome).
  • Strong understanding of and ability to simulate relevant physics like: thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid systems and humid air.
  • Experience with modelling paradigms like: lumped parameter (0D) or one dimensional (1D) modelling; skilled in Modelica or similar modelling tools and confident in using Python for scientific computing and data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly and precisely.
  • Interest in gaining a deep understanding of hydrogen fuel cell systems and parameters affecting their performance.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively and cross boundaries from simulation to system development and testing.

Note this

  • Full-time position (36–40 hours/week).
  • Annual contract with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • Competitive salary based on experience, knowledge, and ability. (E 3.600 – 4.500)
  • 8% holiday pay.
  • 30 vacation days per year (1 FTE).
  • Commuting allowance.
  • Headquarters located in the historic center of Delft.
  • Starting date is negotiable.
