Tackling the chicken-and-egg problem of hydrogen
The global shift towards hydrogen-based heavy-duty operations comes with numerous challenges and opportunities. As highlighted by the World Energy Council, one of the key challenges to a thriving hydrogen economy is the mismatch between supply and demand. There is no demand without supply, and no supply without demand. It’s a classic chicken-and-egg paradox.
Here’s how we’re addressing this challenge at zepp.solutions.

EU-commissioner Piotr Serafin visits zepp.solutions at RDM
Last month, EU commissioner Piotr Serafin visited several EU-funded projects in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany, including zepp.solutions.

Zepp.solutions to supply hydrogen fuel cell systems for zero-emission river cruise vessel
Zepp.solutions, a Dutch pioneer in hydrogen fuel cell technology, has been selected as the fuel cell system supplier for the NERA-H2 project. This initiative, largely funded by the Dutch Maritime Master Plan, aims to introduce hydrogen as a clean energy source in the river cruise industry by developing a fully zero-emission demonstration vessel.

Co-founder Jan Bot has been selected for the FD Talents List 2025

Van den Herik selects zepp.solutions for hydrogen fuel cell genset to decarbonise construction and maritime operations
Dutch hydraulic engineering company Van den Herik-Sliedrecht has placed an order with zepp.solutions for the development of a hydrogen fuel cell generator set. The genset will be built around zepp.solutions’ X150 fuel cell system and is designed to power the battery-electric crane vessel the Prins 6. The genset set will initially be used in an assignment for the Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works.

NLR and zepp.solutions join forces for liquid hydrogen-powered flight
The Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) is taking a major step towards flying on liquid hydrogen, a promising development to make aviation more sustainable. To make this possible, the research institute has signed an agreement with zepp.solutions, a leading Dutch hydrogen fuel cell systems provider, to develop a fuel cell system. This collaboration is a key pillar in NLR’s ambition to conduct a demo flight in 2026.
